The Dwelling Places of God

Jesus

John 1:14

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

The Church

Ephesians 1:22

And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

Eternity

Revelation 21:3

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.

1. The Contribution of the Tabernacle

Exodus 12:35

The people of Israel had also done as Moses told them, for they had asked the Egyptians for silver and gold jewelry and for clothing. 36And the Lord had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have what they asked. Thus they plundered the Egyptians.

Exodus 35:21

And they came, everyone whose heart stirred him, and everyone whose spirit moved him, and brought the Lords contribution to be used for the tent of meeting, and for all its service, and for the holy garments. 22So they came, both men and women. All who were of a willing heart brought brooches and earrings and signet rings and armlets, all sorts of gold objects, every man dedicating an offering of gold to the Lord. 23And every one who possessed blue or purple or scarlet yarns or fine linen or goatshair or tanned ramsskins or goatskins brought them. 24Everyone who could make a contribution of silver or bronze brought it as the Lords contribution. And every one who possessed acacia wood of any use in the work brought it. 29All the men and women, the people of Israel, whose heart moved them to bring anything for the work that the Lord had commanded by Moses to be done brought it as a freewill offering to the Lord.

2 Corinthians 8:1

We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, 2for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. 3For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, 4begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints— 5and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us.

2. The Construction of the Tabernacle

Exodus 31:1

The Lord said to Moses, 2See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, 3and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and all craftsmanship, 4to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze, 5in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, to work in every craft. 6And behold, I have appointed with him Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan. And I have given to all able men ability, that they may make all that I have commanded you. 36:2And Moses called Bezalel and Oholiab and every craftsman in whose mind the Lord had put skill, everyone whose heart stirred him up to come to do the work.

Ephesians 4:4

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. 7To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.

3. The Tour of the Tabernacle

The Court

Exodus 27:9

You shall make the court of the tabernacle.

John 10:9

I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.

The Altar

Exodus 27:1

You shall make the altar of acacia wood, five cubits long and five cubits broad. The altar shall be square, and its height shall be three cubits.

Hebrews 10:10

We have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

The Basin

Exodus 30:17

The Lord said to Moses, 18You shall also make a basin of bronze, with its stand of bronze, for washing. You shall put it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and you shall put water in it, 19with which Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet. 20When they go into the tent of meeting, or when they come near the altar to minister, to burn a food offering to the Lord, they shall wash with water, so that they may not die.

1 John 10:9

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

The Bread of Presence

Exodus 25:23

You shall make a table of acacia wood. Two cubits shall be its length, a cubit its breadth, and a cubit and a half its height. 24You shall overlay it with pure gold and make a molding of gold around it. 30And you shall set the bread of the Presence on the table before me regularly.

John 6:51

I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever.

The Lampstand

Exodus 25:31

You shall make a lampstand of pure gold. The lampstand shall be made of hammered work: its base, its stem, its cups, its calyxes, and its flowers shall be of one piece with it.

John 8:12

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

The Altar of Incense

Exodus 30:1

You shall make an altar on which to burn incense; you shall make it of acacia wood. 7And Aaron shall burn fragrant incense on it. Every morning when he dresses the lamps he shall burn it, 8and when Aaron sets up the lamps at twilight, he shall burn it, a regular incense offering before the Lord throughout your generations.

2 Corinthians 2:15

For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.

The Ark of the Covenant

Exodus 25:10

They shall make an ark of acacia wood. Two cubits and a half shall be its length, a cubit and a half its breadth, and a cubit and a half its height. 11You shall overlay it with pure gold, inside and outside shall you overlay it, and you shall make on it a molding of gold around it.

Hebrews 8:1

Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, 2 a minister in the holy places, in the true tent that the Lord set up, not man.

4. The Filling of the Tabernacle

Exodus 40:34

Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. 35And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. 38For the cloud of the Lord was on the tabernacle by day, and fire was in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel throughout all their journeys.

John 1:14

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Ephesians 3:19

And to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Revelation 21:3

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. …5And he who was seated on the throne said, Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” 6And he said to me, It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.
