Encountering God

Your Devotion and Discipline

1 Timothy 4:7

Train yourself for godliness.

Colossians 1:29

For this I toil, struggling with all His energy that He powerfully works within me.

Philippians 2:13

For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

Luke 9:23

And he said to all, If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.

Romans 8:29

For those whom He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, in order that He might be the firstborn among many brothers.

2 Corinthians 3:18

And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

1. Encounter God in His Word.

Joshua 1:8-9

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

Psalm 1:2-3

But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.

Romans 10:17

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

Romans 12:2

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

John 17:17

Sanctify them in the truth; Your Word is truth.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

Encounter God in His Word as early as you can in the day.
Encounter God in His Word by reading or listening.
Encounter God in His Word by mediating on what you read.
Encounter God in His Word by applying what you read.

2. Encounter God in Prayer.

Mark 1:35

And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, He departed and went out to a desolate place, and there He prayed.

Luke 11:1

Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when He finished, one of His disciples said to Him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.

Luke 18:1

And He told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.

Matthew 7:7-8

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.

Romans 8:15

For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, Abba! Father!

Colossians 4:2

Devote yourself to prayer.

1 Thessalonians 5:17

Pray without ceasing.

Pray before, during, and after your read.

Pray on your knees.

Pray the ACTS of Prayer
Adoration
Confession
Thanksgiving
Supplication

3. Encounter God with His church.

Ephesians 1:22

And He put all things under His feet and gave Him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
