Encountering God

Transcendence and Immanence: For Those Who are Hurting

 

1. The Transcendence of God

Psalm 113:5

Who is like the Lord our God, who is seated on high.

1 Kings 8:27

Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain you. 

Isaiah 66:1 

Thus says the Lord: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool.

Psalm 57:5

Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth!

Psalm 97:9 

For you, O Lord, are most high over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods.

Psalm 97:1

The Lord reigns, let the earth rejoice.

Isaiah 55:8-9  

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. 

Hebrews 1:3

He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.

Psalm 21:13

Be exalted, O Lord, in your strength! We will sing and praise your power.

Whatever you’re going through, God is greater than it!
Whatever you’re going through, God can see ahead of it!
Whatever you’re going through, God can overcome it!
Whatever you’re going through, God can use it!

2. The Immanence of God

Deuteronomy 4:7

For what great nation is there that has a God so near to it as the LORD our God is to us, whenever we call upon him?

Deuteronomy 7:6  

For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be pa people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. 

Psalm 139:7

Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?

Ezekiel 37:14

And I will put my Spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I am the Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it, declares the Lord.”

Psalm 34:18

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

Hebrews 13:5

I will never leave you nor forsake you. 

Hebrews 4:15-16

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
